The Wildlife Art Society International AWARDS

The Society offers a number of awards. If you wish to submit your work for any particular award it
must fulfil the criteria for that award. Please read the separate information sheet very carefully.

The judges reserve the right NOT to award a prize if the required standards have not been met.

The Christopher Parsons Award for Artistic Excellence
This award was inaugurated in 2003 and was named after the late Christopher Parsons OBE who
was a founding member of the BBC Natural History Unit and a Patron and supporter of the
Society. This award will be presented for the Best Portfolio of four works by an artist and will be
subject to the following judging rules.

The portfolio must contain one each of the following subjects:

Animal Portrait – The word ‘animal’ refers to mammals, birds, reptiles, fish or invertebrates.

Wild Habitat or Seascape – This can be with or without a wildlife subject, but use of such subject
must be of secondary importance to the whole land/seascape, which must stand on its own merit.

Animal Behaviour – This must depict ACTIVE behaviour typical of the particular species illustrated
or INTERACTIVE behaviour between different species.

Artists Choice
The artist may choose a subject from one of the following categories:
a) Dusk to Dawn should depict a scene, with or without animals, during sunset to sunrise.
b) Natural Abstracts this requires an imaginative, non-representational interpretation of flora,
fauna or habitat. The judges will be looking for unique artistic vision conveying an abstract view
rather than realism.
c) Waterworld Should be of creatures that spend either all or most of their life in either oceans,
rivers or lakes, depicted in their habitat.
d) Wild Flora (any stage or size of Wild Plant) should illustrate wild plants that have some link with
the portfolio of paintings 1 – 3

CATEGORIES SHOULD BE INDICATED ON YOUR ENTRY FORM ALONGSIDE ENTRIES, PLUS WRITTEN ON YOUR SUBMISSION LABELS N.B.

Judging for this award will take into account the artistic merit of each individual piece, but there
must be an overall interaction or link between the four compositions. This link, does not, however,
mean that all four works need to depict the same species, only that there must be some visible
connection between them, for example that they all live in the same habitat. Artists are
encouraged to be imaginative as to the link or association between the four works; this link must
be stated on the entry form in the space provided. On the entry form you must state, in the space
provided, which ‘Artist’s Choice’ you have made and the link between the four pieces At least two
of the works entered must have been completed in the last twelve months and no work can be
entered that has been exhibited in any previous Annual Exhibition.
