THE WILDLIFE ART SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL – DAY VISITS 2026.
TWASI Visit to Slimbridge – 18th January 2026
On a chilly damp day, a group of us met up at Slimbridge for a Get-Together and the first
Visit of the year.
Some of us decided to take the path towards the Severn estuary, passing through the new
spectacular willow arches, and were soon greeted by a friendly robin beside us singing a
lovely little song, and another higher up a tree – it looked as if they were planning a nest up
there.
In the same group of trees a tiny Goldcrest was flitting rapidly around overhead, so we had
to crane our necks to try and identify it against the light.
The day was rather misty, so the view from the Estuary hide was rather obscured, but we
could see flocks of Canada & Greylag Geese and Lapwing over the wet grasses, and
other birds such as Curlew, Bewick & Mute Swans and many & various ducks & a heron.
A stop at the bird-feeding station rewarded us with a sight of a large family of long-tailed
tits feeding amongst the other tits and robins.
We had lunch together in the restaurant, compared photographs taken, and had a good
chat about TWASI events and our own endeavours.
Sadly, after lunch it rained incessantly, so I don’t think many of us stayed for the wild bird
feed – maybe another time.
